You haven’t seen scary until you’ve seen the original Cybermen.

The Tenth Planet Cybermen were so scary because there was something STILL CLEARLY HUMAN remaining of their bodies… and we don’t know how much, or what state it was in, and that’s what was so fucking terrifying.  And yes, the new Cybermen look cool and shiny, but to me the more “advanced” they look, the more they become just like any other cyborg.  Do these Cybermen look like guys in ski masks?  Perhaps.  But your imagination can also conjure up any number of images of what kind of horror is underneath that ski mask.

Agreed. It is effective the way the New Who Cybermen stomp-march and you can hear them coming a long way off, but the body-horror concept of not knowing quite what’s in the suit (still human, but definitely not human) was creepier to me.

I loooooooooooooooooooooooooove old school cybermen. My favorite cybermen are the super old school ones in the BF audios because the sing-song nature of their voices creeps me the fuck out. But even the old school telly ones are brilliant because they look like humans in space suits and, yeah, like you said. The fact that there is still such humanity in their shape makes it all the more horrifying. (But Second Doctor era cybermen will always be the best cybermen.)
